About Privileges

The Directory and File Privileges (including Revision Directories and Revision Files) define who will have access to and the extent to which they can change a particular directory or file.  These parameters are defined in the Directory or File Property dialogue by the owner or administrator of the directory or file.

There are two levels of access control, read/write or read only,  each of these have three Access Types, Private, Public and Restricted.  Directories and files inherit access levels from from their parents:

Access Type

Who has access

Private...

Only the owner of the directory or file, or a user with administrator privileges will be able to view and/or make changes.

Public...

All users will be able to view and/or make changes to this directory or file.

Restricted...

The owner or users that have membership of one or more of the selected Role(s) and/or have subscribed to one or more of the selected Workgroup(s) will be able view and/or to make changes to this directory or file.  The truth table below defines these access levels.

Assuming two roles, Labs and EWS and two workgroups, Grp1 and Grp2, then the file directory Restricted Access Types applied to either these roles or workgroups will result in users having the access  privileges as defined in the table below:
